It’s a landmark in the City of Sydney and so to be appointed to work on the QVB brand is quite an honour. Mainspring worked across a broad scope of branding including brand identity, way finding, strategy, brand guidelines and environmental branding.
The Queen Victoria Building first opened in 1898 replacing the Sydney Markets. Romanesque architecture was chosen for the grand building, which housed a concert hall, coffee shops, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople. Over the decades, the concert hall became the city library, offices and a variety of tenants. In the 1930s it underwent a ‘drastic Deco remodelling’ to accommodate the Sydney City Council which at the time was the main tenant, followed by restoration projects in 1982 and 2009.
