Romanesque architecture was chosen for the grand building, which housed a concert hall, coffee shops, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople. Over the decades, the concert hall became the city library, offices and a variety of tenants. In the 1930s it underwent a ‘drastic Deco remodelling’ to accommodate the Sydney City Council which at the time was the main tenant, followed by restoration projects in 1982 and 2009.
